In September of 2001, Halloween Horror Nights XI was all ready to rev-up with Icon Eddie, Jack The Clown's chainsaw wielding demented brother. On the morning of September 11th, 2001, all of that changed. The world watched in true horror as terrorists strategically and deliberately, flew planes into both towers of The World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Another plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed just outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania killing all on board, but saving an unknown amount of lives in the process. All in all, nearly 3000 people were killed as a result of the attacks.
Halloween Horror Nights would rush to tweak the event to reflect the mood of the country. The event was toned down considerably. Things like blood and gore were toned down or eliminated; and even red lights used for mood around the park, were changed to brighter colors like green. House names were even changed. Scary Tales for instance, was originally called Terrorland, Nightmare Alley was originally Slasher Alley and even the Festival of the Dead Parade, was changed to Nightmares on Parade. Unfortunately for Eddie, this also included him. He was scrapped from virtually all advertisements and merchandise almost immediately. His metal face-mask and bloody disheveled look, may have reflected real life too much. Thus, Jack The Clown returned as Master of Scaremonies with the creepy tagline of I.C.U., changing to Jack's Back! |
