In 2002, Halloween Horror Nights decided to make a change. They moved the event to Universal's very popular Islands of Adventure theme park next door. IOA offered a plethora of different environments for the creative minds that be, to give guests all new screams of fright. Whole islands like Jurassic Park, offered different types settings to make people scream like never before.
With Jack The Clown getting a break this year, Halloween Horror Nights created an all new Icon in the Caretaker. Interestingly, he would not have been the original Icon. Cindy (or Sindy), a demented little girl who would later be revealed to be The Caretaker's daughter, was the original Icon for the event. The original concept was that every land would have been taken over by her toys and playthings. Unfortunately a slew of child abductions within the Central Florida area caused Universal to scrap the idea of Cindy and create the character of The Caretaker out of her father, Paul Bearer. Lightship Entertainment would also record a documentary this year that would air on The Travel Chanel in 2003 called, The Art of the Scare. The program detailed how Horror Nights is designed and executed every year. It was a symbol of just how much a cultural phenomenon Halloween Horror Nights had become. |
