COMMENTSDon't Breathe, is a showcase for what Fede Alvarez is capable of, as a horror director. I personally was not a fan of his Evil Dead remake. However, I saw the eye the guy had for horror. Alvarez, crafts a tension fueled romp, that will have you on the edge of your seat, the whole time. Turning the "home invasion" flick on its head, Don't Breathe is a slick, smart, exercise, that horror fans will love. While the film is tightly crafted, there are a few things that don't work. Some of the dialogue is a little wooden, and some of the set-up is a little forced. That being said, Stephen Lang, deserves a lot of praise here. His Blind Man, is creepy, yet layered. There are twists and turns at every corner, and you won't know who to root for, until the very end. I don't want to say too much. Don't Breathe, is good stuff. Very good stuff.

COMMENTSTo quote Doc Brown, "What in the name of Sir Issac H. Newton happened here?" Suicide Squad, is a disaster. Plain and simple. While the characters are the strength here, David Ayer, and the screenplay let them down. Will Smith, is great as Deadshot. Margot Robbie is good as Harley Quinn. What little we see of Jared Leto's Joker is fun. Even Jai Courtney is good as Captain Boomerang. The problem lies with the execution. From horrible lines of dialogue, to a ghost of a script, to an awful finale, to downright goofy performances, Suicide Squad limps the DCEU forward. The charismatic presence of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and the rest of the cast, barely save this monumental disaster of a film. Suicide Squad, has the stink of a bad 90's comic book film, including Warner Bros. own Batman & Robin, all over the place. After taking a hit with Batman v. Superman, DC and Warner Bros. have some work to do. And I liked Batman v. Superman. I enjoyed the theatrical release, but I highly recommend the extended cut. Suicide Squad is a tough pill to swallow, and makes Batman v. Superman look like Citizen Kane.
