COMMENTSI wanted to love this film so much. Alas, I love it, but not in the way I wanted. While the first Independence Day is finely crafted schlock, Resurgence is just schlock. There is some awful stuff in this film. Unlike its predecessor, Resurgence doesn't have the charm to elevate what could be taken as awful, to sheer entertainment. The young cast, can't do it; even though, I actually like Hemsworth in this film. The older cast, is basically phoning it in, or just walking by the camera for a useless cameo. Goldblum, is doing his best Goldblum impression. Resurgence attempts to go full B-movie, as opposed to the first, which used the style as influence. In a way, that is why I kind of love what Resurgence does. It just gets weird. Weird, and dumb. The last hour of Resurgence had me grinning, and I really couldn't believe they were going there. And I honestly want to see where this could possibly go. That counts for something.
