COMMENTS

Star Trek Beyond, feels like the most "Trekkie" of the new Trek films. While some moviegoers may be turned off by that initial notion, die hard fans will welcome the turn for the new franchise. The most poignant thing happening in this film, are the actors. Watching how much the cast has settled into their roles, and grown since we first saw them in 2009, is great to watch. Beyond offers a fun romp with the Enterprise crew, and their interactions are what sell it. Sofia Boutella, is great as Jaylah too. Idris Elba, brings his usual gravitas to the villain, even if he feels a little one note. While there is plenty to have fun with in Beyond, the flick does tend to meander a bit. The plot is thin, and at times, it feels like the film is stretching. Still, Star Trek Beyond is a lot of fun, and offers some great spectacle and thrills, for the summer blockbuster season.
