HHN XXIV: HOUSE RANKING UPDATE

10/17/2014

Picture
Greetings HHN fans, HHN Legacy back again with a House ranking update. Yes, I am still here. Last week, I was quite busy. I mentioned that I had a family matter to attend to last week, and that took up a lot of my time. My Grandmother passed away and I was attending her funeral in Tampa last Wednesday and Thursday. I did get a chance to attend HHN on Friday, but my mind was elsewhere, and I didn't get a chance to update the ol' blog. And then I got sick late last week.
Anyway, I know today is Thursday, but I figured I would update the House rankings anyway. Some stuff has drastically changed over the week. Yes, things may still change from today through next Friday, but I feel I owe an update. A few observations first. The streets have remained consistent. There has been a slight change in MASKerade: Unstitched, as there was an incident that occurred (at least, that is what I was told). Apparently, one of the stilt-walker dancers fell on a guest last week (or something to that effect). I'm not quite sure what happened, but fog has been removed from the Scare Zone.
I have only seen Bill & Ted and Rocky Horror once this season. I like the Bill & Ted show, but I wasn't too overly impressed with it this year, and my desire to go back and see it is pretty small. The crowds. Boy, the crowds have been awful this year. It has been ridiculously packed, and they just keep getting worse. Last night was busy. Really busy. Halloween, AVP, and The Walking Dead, consistently have 75-120 minute waits all night. Everything else is pretty much a crap-shoot, averaging between 30-75 minute waits all night. From Dusk Till Dawn seems to be the odd man out, averaging the smallest wait time (at least when I'm there). Last night, I don't recall the House getting higher than 45 minutes. The Walking Dead, still had a posted wait time of 90 minutes at 1:45is as we were leaving last night.
Bottom line, we are getting into the really busy part of the HHN season, so keep that in mind if you venture forth to the event. So without further blabbering, here is the current House rankings from the bottom up. Oh, I also lost track of the number of my House visits. Sorry, guys.

HOUSE RANKINGS AS OF 10/17/14

8. DRACULA UNTOLD: REIGN OF BLOOD

Picture
  • CURRENT RATING: 2.5/5
Aside from my one really intense run through, Dracula Untold continues to disappoint. Of course, the film is out now too, so I'm curious to see how and if people's opinions change based on seeing the film. I still have yet to see it myself, and probably wont either. Still, greatly underwhelmed by Dracula Untold. I wanted them to surprise me, but they failed. In a big way.

7. FROM DUSK TILL DAWN

Picture
  • CURRENT RATING: 3/5
A bit improved on the intensity in here, but still far from being a really solid House. I love, love, LOVE the sets in here, and it's still a shame the scares don't match the scenery. It's definitely a fun House, and great to look at. I just really wish they would bring the scares a bit more.

6. ROANOKE: CANNIBAL COLONY

Picture
  • CURRENT RATING: 4/5
The rest of the pack of the Houses, are all quite strong. Roanoke seems to be really intense, or just a run-of-the-mill, solid House. My last run through on Friday last week, was actually quite weak. However, every other time I've been through, it is really strong. Still love the atmosphere and sets in here, and it definitely has an awesome old school HHN feel. Unless Roanoke makes a drastic turn downward, it has remained pretty consistent throughout the run of HHN thus far.

5. AVP: ALIEN VS PREDATOR

Picture
  • CURRENT RATING: 4.5/5
The majority of HHN Houses this year are strong. Really strong. There was a period where for some reason, AVP lost a little intensity. However, my last few times through, that intensity is back and it's glorious. Sadly, almost every House is great this year, and the rest on the list have an ever so slight edge over AVP to this point. Still, a terrific House though.

4. THE WALKING DEAD: END OF THE LINE

Picture
  • CURRENT RATING: 4.5/5
Still a shocker for me, this House is all kinds of awesome. Love, love, LOVE, what they did with The Walking Dead this year. Every time I go through, I'm always seeing new things, and finding new scares. The cast brings it every time. Get ready kids, fanboys are going cry when they bring The Walking Dead back again. Yes, it is still really popular and bringing all sorts of people into the event. I for one would welcome a return, if they do something like End Of The Line again. It's a great House. And I hate the show. With a passion.

3. DOLLHOUSE OF THE DAMNED

Picture
  • CURRENT RATING: 5/5
Dollhouse if still top notch. Delightfully creepy, effectively scary, and just awesome. The cast is awesome in here, and they don't hesitate to come at you. Every time I go through, it is intense and never lets up. Dollhouse is a must see.

2. GIGGLES & GORE INC.

Picture
  • CURRENT RATING: 5/5
Man, the cast in here in awesome! They make the House. What Giggles lacks in elaborate set design, the cast more than makes up for it. It's fun, frightening, and gory. Giggles is a prime example of a cast making the House what it is.

1. HALLOWEEN

Picture
  • CURRENT RATING: 5/5
The number one thing for me when judging these Houses, is consistency. For the most part, my current top 5, excels when it comes to consistency. However, no House this year has been more consistent than Halloween. It's always intense, and the cast is ALWAYS on point. Every time. Halloween, continues to be one of the best Houses HHN has ever done. It's destined to become legendary in the echelons of HHN Houses. It's just perfect in every way. From sets to scares, Halloween is the one to beat.

So that's it for this week. Until we meet next week HHN fans, scare you later.
