Greetings internet dwellers!
Got down to the Studios this early afternoon, to take a gander at the progress in the streets. By the time this goes up, it will be moot...but I digress. I will be back down at Universal Friday to see the progress. We got some stuff now up in Revenge of Chucky, mostly just the main stage. Yes, Chucky will be "interactive". How interactive is anyone's guess. Vamp '85, has started to put stuff out. The Macy's windows were recently filled with store mannequins, sporting some 80's fashion. The area which will contain the New Year's Eve ball drop, is also starting to take shape. Killer Klowns from Outer Space, has started to show signs of props. We got a big sign on a wacky pole, and some hanging, wrapped bags (the cotton candy cocoons). In addition, we also have the traditional HHN food and beverage tents. They have started to sprout around the park. Publix, has also put out their HHN displays. The tickets this year are neat: VHS tapes. Anyway, that's it for now. As always, you can follow me @HHNLegacy on Twitter, for real time updates when I'm in the park. Adios for now. Greetings internet dwellers! Reports have begun to circulate that digital billboards, are already showing up along the highway. The full marketing blitz for HHN 28 is about to commence. With that, comes the commercial for the year. These past few years, have been quite interesting for the commercials. While some have been controversial, I like the fact that the team has gone a bit cinematic in their approach. One of my favorites, was the commercial for HHN 24. While that year gets criticized for yet more use of The Walking Dead, I quite enjoy that one. I also really like the one from HHN 26. The operatic singing in the theater, with the systematic reveal of some of the year's horror icons, I thought was delightfully efficient and short. Last year, saw director Eli Roth, helm the commercial. I really, really enjoyed that one. This year's version, is quite neat. Of course, it's showcasing the three big IP's: Poltergeist, Halloween 4, and of course, Stranger Things. Once again, the commercial feels very cinematic. Which I like. The total blackness with the reflective water, adds a nice creepy touch (Under the Skin anyone?). The die-hards will probably hate it, but I really dig it. You can catch it below. Greetings internet dwellers! Well, this morning the minds behind HHN 28 did a round table conversation discussing this year's event on Periscope. Which for me, I can't believe they didn't advertise they were doing this before they did it. Anyway, in the discussion, lots of details were revealed. This included talks about the houses themselves, scare zones, and a reveal of the final house in this year's lineup. Scary Tales: Deadly Ever After, completes the record breaking 10 houses for HHN 28. The house will follow The Wicked Witch, as she has corrupted other fairy tale stories. It was also revealed, that the "splatter" scene teased by Mike Aiello earlier in the year, came from Scary Tales: Deadly Ever After. It's a scene involving Humpty Dumpty. Well, he won't be putting himself back together this time it seems, as he's been splattered all over the walls. This scene, supposedly will smell too. The team also gave some details about the merchandise. They showed off shirts featuring Stranger Things and Trick 'r Treat, among other things. Later, on the blog, Universal confirmed that two days have been added to the event. September 19th and the 26th. And with that, ALL has been revealed! Put to bed the speculation. Put to bed the leaks. Put to bed cryptic "hype" lists. Put to bed months upon months of chatter, and whispers of secrets yet to be revealed. It's here. It's coming. And it's coming fast. March on towards the turnstiles HHN fans. This lineup is strong. Very strong. And it's either going to be epic, or a monstrous failure. Either way, it's upon us. Finally. That's it for today. Later, all. Greetings internet dwellers! Well, I was down at the park yesterday with family, and I did not get a chance to update on the announcement. So, here it is: Blumhouse returns in Horrors of Blumhouse 2. Or is that Chapter 2? Or Volume 2? Hollywood's is branded Chapter 2. Then Patrick Braillard referred to it as "round 2". I already have vertigo, so I'm just going to move on. Anyway, Orlando's version will feature Happy Death Day, and The First Purge. This has been an interesting house to follow this season. Lots of uppity-dippity-do with the development. Did it, or didn't it? What was in it, what wasn't in it? Was it even, or was it not. We probably will never know the true answer to that. Besides that, this is the house I referenced in a My Talking Head a while back, which was the one that was going to rub people the wrong way. Horrors of Blumhouse last year, wasn't well recieved by most. While it had some die-hard fans, the vast majority of people seemed to not like it. While I agree, and this isn't high on my anticipation list, it still isn't dead last. It beats out Halloween 4 for one reason: Happy Death Day. While Happy Death Day isn't going to win an Oscar anytime soon, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it a while back. It's fun with a slick premise, and I want to see how the team portrays its premise in the house. I have no desire to see The First Purge. I'll close it at that. And with that, we have one house remaining. Kind of hard to believe how close the event is. Despite my bout with vertigo and what will come next, I'm chugging forward. That's it for now. Catch you soon. Greetings internet dwellers!
Well, it's been a bit of a crazy week. I had a little medical scare earlier in the week. At first, it was suspected I was having a heart attack. Then that changed to me having, or have had a stroke. I spent a about a day and a half in the hospital for tests. Turns out, I did not have a stroke, but I had severe vertigo. It's bad timing, as we are now less than a month away from the start of HHN 28. As I was in the hospital, scare zone prep began with props in the Twisted Tradition scare zone. I of course, was recovering the last few days. While I was down, a friend of mine was able to help out with updates via Twitter. Thanks to Jack for the help. Cautiously, I was able to head down to the park today to get a peek at Twisted Tradition myself. There's a reason this is my second most anticipated scare zone. The work so far is great. Anyway, if things are slow from me lately, it's because this vertigo crap is being a hideous bitch-goddess. Here's some photos from today. Greetings internet dwellers! Well, here we are. A few weeks after the leak, and now it's official- Michael Myers will return in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers. Here's the thing with this one. I have been curious about what the reaction was going to be with this. Since the leak, I've been watching closely to what people are saying. I think most were expecting the new film coming later this year. I'm a little surprised at the reactions here. It seems that this is running the gamut. Some like it, some hate it, some are confused, and some were wanted Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (No. Just no). I said a few years ago when Hell Comes to Haddonfield made its debut, I'm not a fan of this series overall. After the initial Halloween movie, things quickly went downhill. And truly, the series has never recovered. Halloween: H2O is decent and Rob Zombie's Halloween, is controversial at best (I like his version). The only thing the series had going for it later in its life, was the character of Myers himself. Beyond that, the series is just bland. The house will obviously be based on the film. I know this particular film in the franchise, is probably best known for Danielle Harris. Beyond that, I've virtually erased this movie out of my head. I remember it being a bit bloodier than the last one featuring Michael Myers. Anyway, Halloween returns to HHN. For better or worse. Greetings internet dwellers!
It's that time again. Photos upon photos of lighting rigs, have begun to circulate around the internet. I got down to the Studios today, to check out some of the progress. Not much else besides lighting rigs, and the closure of Fear Factor Live. Which that closure, while not officially confirmed, it will be used for Academy of Villains this year. Anyway, enjoy the pics. Greetings internet dwellers! It's finally "official" and I couldn't be happier. The classic Tobe Hooper/Steven Spielberg collaboration, Poltergeist is making its debut at Halloween Horror Nights. Not only am I thrilled to have this be featured at the event, but I want to echo a bit of what Charles Gray said in the blog. Poltergeist means a lot to me. This was a film I fondly remember watching as a kid. This, and Gremlins, were two of the first "early" horror films I ever saw. While Gremlins is a bit more comedic, Poltergeist is the definitely the scarier film. Aspects of this movie still get under my skin today. Of course, as I grew older and became more interested in making films, the stories of the first films' production, and the subsequent "Poltergeist curse", only enhance the viewing experience. Like The Exorcist from a few years before, I am really interested to see how they do this. It appears, we will actually be going "into the light". What does that look like? At least, to Art & Design? How, if at all, are they going to pull off certain effects? I would love to see some of those classic effects, try to become a reality- for better or worse. Anyway, so it's coming. They're coming. And I can't wait. Greetings internet dwellers! After a turbulent period for HHN, we have our first "official" announcement. Seeds of Extinction has been revealed upon the public. This is another one of those houses I had been hearing a lot about, for a long time. Like Carnival Graveyard: Rust in Pieces, I really wanted to hear a bit more about the house, before I could gauge my feelings on it. According to the blog, Earth is in a post-apocalyptic state after a meteor crash. Humans have gone extinct, and vegetation has taken over. And mutated. And killing people. Perhaps from the meteor? That's not clear. The concept to this house is quite interesting, given what its inspirations are. There's a Lovecraft story, which the house has seems to have some "seeds" from. The story is called "The Colour out of Space". Funny thing, I believe that story is set in 1982. There's also the Creepshow segment starring Stephen King, called "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill", which has some similar elements as well. The team, has also thrown in a myriad of references to past HHN's in the house it seems. I'm quite excited to experience this house. There are elements in here that are quite unique and I can't wait to see what they do in here. Even if there are some weird holes in the concept (if humans are extinct, why are we walking around?). That's it for now. Keep your eyes peeled, as we are close to the end of reveals, and the announcement schedule is now all over the place. Anything can happen. Greetings internet dwellers!
Today has been a roller coaster of emotions for me. So perhaps, I am feeling a little vulnerable. I don't normally post about things like this, but fuck it. A few years ago, HHN had a leak problem. Properties were being leaked into the public consciousness early. I eluded to the fact in a recent My Talking Head video, that the announcement schedule had been upended. Well, with that, comes the leaky damn. No, it wasn't Publix this time. A local Orlando hotel is the culprit. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Poltergeist, are both headed to HHN 28. While I stress nothing is official until HHN and Universal make it so, it's a little hard for me to hold back given what I know. And the plain-as-day graphic. No, I won't post it here. You can find it floating around the internet. So, it's unofficially official. And with that, I await the official announcements. Perhaps we can get a photo similar to the one below. The image is from 2014 when Halloween hadn't yet been announced, but Publix had already put out their HHN standee. This surely isn't the way they wanted Poltergeist to go, I can tell you that. Good times. |
